Our Mission
To feed people’s souls as well as their stomach…to reach out with unconditional love to every human being, and remind them of their intrinsic worth, value, and importance as a person.

We feed the homeless who are hungry, find clothing for those who are cold, and endeavor to bring hope to those who have lost everything else.

Every other week volunteers from Soul Food USA make over 375 sandwiches and deliver them in person, along with bottles of water, clothing donations, and other supplies, to people living on the streets and in the homeless shelters of Salt Lake City, Utah. We believe that handing a person a sandwich, along with a handshake or hug, can do more than just feed their body for a few hours…it can feed their soul. By practicing the true meaning of Genshai (never treat another person in a manner to make them feel small), a sandwich becomes love and and a bottle of water becomes hope.

What started as the beginning of a monthly family tradition…
…has become a movement.

When we went downtown with sandwiches and water bottles, we thought that we were merely starting a monthly family tradition that would allow us to give back a little and teach the boys the importance of service. We did not expect to see tiny children on the street, nor could we anticipate the soul-shaking affect it would have on us to see their beautiful eyes light up at the prospect of a mere peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Even with our individual struggles, we each enjoy a level of comfort, security, and prosperity that so many people cannot even fathom. As we drove away from the streets outside the shelter, we could not stop crying and we knew then that we could not make this trip downtown only once a month and remain good stewards of the abundance God has blessed us with. The first man we gave a sandwich to began to cry and said to us “He said ‘Feed my sheep,’ and that’s what you guys are doing!” That moment has changed our lives forever.

We are so touched and inspired by all the offers to help with donations, preparation, and delivery! We will use this site to coordinate our efforts and pass on information so we can pull our resources together and create the greatest good.
